Overview

Armageddon 2001 is a two-issue DC Comics event written by Archie Goodwin and Dennis O’Neil, with art by Dan Jurgens and inks by Dick Giordano. The story launches the character Waverider and explores possible futures for DC’s heroes — all centered on uncovering which hero will one day become the tyrant known as Monarch.

Synopsis

In the year 2030, Matthew Ryder becomes Waverider, gaining the power to peer into the future timelines of DC’s greatest heroes. His mission: learn which hero becomes the ruthless despot Monarch.

Waverider’s investigation touches Superman, Batman, Flash, Captain Atom, Hawk & Dove, and many others — leading to the shocking reveal of Monarch’s true identity in issue #2 and directly setting up Armageddon: Alien Agenda.
