About B & J Comics Etc.

Our Story

B & J Comics Etc. got its start back in the winter of 1998, during the big Maine ice storm. Stuck inside with time to think, Jennie and Billy started talking about what they really wanted to do. Billy had always been into comics — it’s what got him reading as a kid and what kept him hooked ever since.

That simple idea turned into something real. They started setting up at local fairs and shows, buying and selling comics and other collectibles. Before long, they were traveling all over Maine doing events, meeting other collectors, and building what would become the backbone of B & J Comics.

For nearly twenty years, most of the business was done online through eBay and at shows. Along the way, the collection grew to include not just comics, but vintage toys, sports cards, and other collectibles. Around 2013, Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon cards joined the lineup, and that helped bring in a whole new crowd of collectors.

A New Chapter

A few years ago, Tammie came on board and helped push things even further. Billy and Jennie moved from East Waterboro to Wilton, where Tammie was, and the business followed. They started doing live Whatnot shows, kept their eBay store going, and even ran a small in-home shop out of their basement — open by appointment only.

As things grew and more people supported what they were doing, they finally made the jump to a full storefront. Today, B & J Comics Etc. has a brick-and-mortar location at 346 Main Street in Wilton, Maine.

Funny enough, Billy and Jennie weren’t always on board with the idea of new comics or buying direct from distributors. They preferred the old stuff — the classics. But after some time, they came around and saw how much fun it could be bringing in the latest releases and meeting new readers. The same goes for this website — it’s been around in different forms for a few years, but now it’s finally becoming what we’ve always wanted: a full online store where you can browse everything we offer.

What We Do

These days, B & J Comics Etc. sells a bit of everything — new and old comics, graphic novels, trading cards, toys, and sports memorabilia. We’re also proud to feature work from local artists, including handmade resin art, crochet animals, 3D-printed figures, and other unique pieces. Supporting local creators has become a big part of what we do. It keeps things fresh, creative, and connected to our community.

Looking Ahead

We’re excited to keep growing, both online and in person. The plan is to keep expanding our inventory, add more local talent, and maybe one day open another store in Farmington, Maine.

We’re always buying collections — comics, cards, toys, you name it — and we offer finder’s fees for anyone who points us toward one worth checking out.

From the first show table to our current shop, everything we’ve done has been about keeping the collector community alive, having fun, and sharing what we love.
