Coyote – Marvel/Epic – 1983–1986 – Volume 1 – #1–16

📘 Series Summary

Originally appearing in the pages of Eclipse Magazine, Coyote found its definitive home under Marvel’s Epic Comics imprint. Created by the legendary Steve Englehart, the series follows Sylvester Santangelo, a man raised in the desert among supernatural beings who possesses the ability to dance between dimensions. As the shapeshifting hero Coyote, he battles the Shadow Cabinet, a global conspiracy aimed at toppling the North American government.

The series is a landmark of the mid-80s "Mature Readers" movement, blending Native American mythology, psychedelic science fiction, and gritty political espionage. With artwork by Steve Leialoha, Chas Truog, and even the legendary Steve Ditko on backup features, Coyote pushed the boundaries of what mainstream-adjacent comics could achieve. The run is also historically significant for launching the career of one of the industry's biggest icons.
