📘 Series Summary
Born from the controversial and high-energy Extreme Studios era of Image Comics, Bloodstrike Volume 1 redefined the concept of the black-ops superhero team. Created by Rob Liefeld, the series centers on "Project: Born Again," a secret government program that reanimates deceased meta-humans to serve as an elite, deniable strike force. Led by the stoic Cabbot Stone, the original roster includes the four-armed powerhouse Fourplay, the psychotic Deadlock, the cryokinetic Tag, and the cybernetic Shogun.
The series is famous for its visceral, "blood and guts" approach to the genre, frequently crossing over with other Extreme titles like Brigade and Supreme in massive events like "Blood Brothers" and "Extreme Sacrifice." Mid-way through the run, the book underwent a radical shift under writers like Keith Giffen and artist Karl Altstaetter, introducing Chapel (of Spawn and Youngblood fame) as the new field leader and exploring darker, more psychological themes including Chapel’s HIV-positive diagnosis. This 25-issue run remains a hallmark of 90s independent comics, blending gritty paramilitary action with the unique "Image" aesthetic.
