Batman and the Outsiders – DC Comics – (1983–1987) – Volume 1 – #1–46

📘 Series Summary

In 1983, Batman famously resigned from the Justice League of America over their refusal to intervene in a civil war in Markovia. In Batman and the Outsiders, he forms his own black-ops team to handle the threats the League wouldn't touch. Written by Mike W. Barr with definitive art by Jim Aparo and later Alan Davis, this series redefined Batman as a team leader of "outsider" heroes who didn't fit the traditional superhero mold.

The team consists of diverse and powerful individuals: the powerhouse Geo-Force, the electric Black Lightning, the soul-trapping Katana, the element-shifting Metamorpho, and the mysterious light-wielder Halo. Later in the series, the psychic Looker joins the roster. Together, they face unconventional threats like Baron Bedlam, The Masters of Disaster, and Kobra. The series transitioned into a Baxter-paper format (The Outsiders) at issue #33, with the final issues of this volume reprinting those stories for the newsstand market.
