Arion: Lord of Atlantis (1982–1985)

The epic, mythic saga of Atlantis’ greatest sorcerer — blending sword-and-sorcery, cosmic magic, and political intrigue across 35 issues.

Overview

Arion: Lord of Atlantis is a sweeping fantasy adventure following Ahri’ahn — warrior-mage and protector of a mystical Atlantis long before recorded history. Created by Paul Kupperberg and Jan Duursema, the series weaves together gods, demons, lost civilizations, and ancient magic as Atlantis stands on the brink of constant destruction.

As Arion battles invading forces, dark sorcery, and his own corrupted lineage, the series evolves into one of DC’s most ambitious fantasy epics of the early 1980s.

Synopsis

Across its 35-issue run, the series chronicles Arion’s struggle against his immortal brother Garn Daanuth, the dark mage whose powers rival his own. Atlantis is thrust into endless conflict — wars, demons from Darkworld, treacherous magic, political coups, and cosmic revelations tied to Arion’s ancient origins.

Allies like Lady Chian, Wyynde, and Mara join him as the kingdom faces monsters, corrupted gods, and invasions from neighboring mystical realms. The later issues culminate in the celebrated “Magic Odyssey” arc, redefining Arion’s power and his connection to Atlantis’ magical lifeblood.
