Aria: The Soul Market (2001)
A six-issue dark fantasy about bargains, stolen souls, old loves, and a very dangerous faerie named Goodfellow.
Overview
Aria: The Soul Market is a 6-issue miniseries from Image Comics, written by Brian Holguin with art by David Yardin and covers by Jay Anacleto. Set in the same world as the original Aria series, it follows Lady Kildare, an expatriate princess of Faerie living in modern Manhattan, as her life is upended by the arrival of the infamous trickster Robin Goodfellow.
The tone is gothic urban fantasy: magic in nightclubs and back alleys, old myths walking through city streets, and immortals wrestling with love, regret, and the price of a soul.
Series Summary
Goodfellow’s sudden visit to New York brings riddles, lies, and a deadly game. As Kildare follows his trail, she uncovers an underground soul market where human spirits are bought and sold, and learns that the soul of a long-forgotten lover is among the merchandise.
Meanwhile, her friend Ondine becomes obsessed with gaining a soul of her own, no matter the cost. As the mini progresses, Kildare is forced into a bargain with Goodfellow and drawn into a conflict with a pursuing force known only as the Dread, culminating in auctions of captured souls, betrayals, and a high-stakes showdown over love, mortality, and vengeance.
